LHZ-TIR Afghanistan Kazakhstan Transit Hub is a TIR truck transport transit service system under LHZ, built around Kazakhstan to facilitate China-Afghanistan TIR trucking. Kazakhstan Invests $500 Million in Afghan Railway to Strengthen Central Asian Hub Status
In July 2025, Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Zhumangarin led a delegation to Kabul for talks with Afghanistan's Deputy Prime Minister Baradar. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding for the $500 million Torghundi-Herat railway project. Located in western Afghanistan, this railway is a critical infrastructure link connecting Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, extending northward to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan and southward to Pakistan and India, significantly reducing transport distances between Central Asian countries and Indian Ocean ports.
Kazakhstan is also preparing to establish a transport and logistics company in Herat to support the railway project's implementation. Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have signed a trade roadmap setting an annual trade target of $3 billion, covering agriculture, mining, industry, and cross-border railway operations.
New China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan TIR Route Opened 5 Days Direct to Afghanistan
Since August 2025, with IRU and industry partner cooperation, the new China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan TIR route has been successfully launched. Departing from the China-Kazakhstan border Alashankou (Dostyk) Port, the route traverses Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, arriving at Afghanistan's Torkham, covering 2,250 kilometers in 5 days, saving one week compared to the previous China-Pakistan-Afghanistan TIR route. This route has achieved regular operation.
Kazakhstan has proposed utilizing the Khorgos Dry Port to provide logistics hub development and container vehicle leasing services for Afghan cargo transiting through Kazakhstan to China. Bilateral discussions are ongoing regarding the launch of the China-Kazakhstan-Afghanistan freight route and establishment of a seamless logistics system, with a focus on resolving backhaul cargo loading issues to reduce logistics costs.
Kazakhstan is advancing three transport corridors to Afghanistan: the Northern Corridor via Khorgos-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan (already in regular operation); the Central Corridor via Alashankou-Dostyk-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan (main route); and the Southern Corridor via Kashgar-Khunjerab-Pakistan-Afghanistan (backup route).
